What are the three most important leadership skills that leaders should develop right now?
  • Clear communication: always remember that nobody can read your mind and clear communication allows for a streamlined team and in turns creates good work flow.
  • Calm persona: even if you are experiencing panic, frustrating, anger or more always keep a calm persona as your team reacts to your actions and emotions.
  • Be able to listen: it is not always about leading the way but instead about listening to the team needs and what they have discovered as they are always on the ground with the clientele.
What's the best leadership advice you've ever gotten from a mentor?
  • Breathe! By taking time to step back and breathe, leaders are able to regroup their thoughts and become more focused. This creates a calmer and more focused leader.
What have you learned about yourself when in leadership roles?
  • I have found myself able to diffuse situations and lead my team to a neutral level. Working in the fashion industry, we work long hours with a diverse range of personalities. I am able to step back from it all and see what needs to be completed logistically without getting caught up in everything else. I don’t micro-manage and this brings great trust levels from my team members. I also find it enjoyable to open up project discussions to my team to get additional insight; it creates a strong sense of team work.
